Faith Letter to Senate

NewsNovember 18, 2009

Dear Senator:

Our organizations, as well as communities of faith at all levels of our society, have supported  comprehensive health care reform for decades. As providers of services and care, our members,  congregations and institutions are very familiar with the impact our current health care system  has on individuals and their families, particularly vulnerable populations such as low-income  individuals, women, children and the elderly.

We are pleased that the U.S. Congress has answered the call for health care reform and is  working diligently to expand health care availability to all Americans. We look to the Senate at  this important juncture to keep to a vision of comprehensive health care reform that is affordable,  accessible, inclusive and accountable.

As people of faith, we envision a society where each person is afforded health, wholeness and

human dignity. We are advocates of health care that is affordable, available to all, and in which

access to quality health services is not limited by income, age, gender, race or ethnicity,

geography, employment status or health status.

Too many Americans suffer because of our broken health care system. We urge you to support

comprehensive health care reform legislation that:

 includes a strong public health insurance option that is available on day one and in all states;

 expands Medicaid to all individuals under age 65 with incomes up to 150% of the federal poverty level;

 prohibits pre-existing condition exclusions;

 provides adequate subsidies for all individuals and families up to 400% of the federal poverty level and reasonable limits on annual out-of-pocket expenses for all people;

  eliminates underwriting based on health status, age, gender or occupation;

 provides legal immigrants with equal access to subsidies to help them purchase health insurance and allows
undocumented immigrants to purchase their own health insurance through any insurance exchange offered;

 eliminates the five-year waiting period for all legal immigrants to receive Medicaid and CHIP benefits;

  includes all immigrant children and pregnant women, regardless of immigration status, in eligibility for Medicaid.

We urge you to seize this opportunity to make important, positive changes to our health care

system that will literally save lives and improve the quality of life for millions of Americans.

Sincerely,

The truth its than when you search for health and auto insurance quotes you have to do a little bit of research to find the best quotes.

Obama challenged Republicans, who have been largely unified in opposing his proposals, to bring their best ideas for how to cover more Americans and fix the health insurance system to the public discussion. Obama made better coverage for children a centerpiece of his health care remake, but it turns out the letter of the law provided a less-than-complete guarantee that kids with health problems would not be shut out of coverage.

Down the road, employers also could be affected by a new tax on costly health insurance plans if health care plan costs continue to rise. Starting in 2018, a 40% excise tax will be imposed on health insurance premiums exceeding $10,200 for single coverage and $27,500 for family coverage. While there has been much controversy and debate over hundreds of provisions and alternatives, it is my view that the current legislation pending in the Senate provides a workable framework for this country to take an important step toward enhancing health care accessibility, promoting operational efficiencies and technological innovation, and reducing the cost of health care and the federal deficit. We may find that we will have to purchase our own hospital curtains just to ensure the healthcare regime continues to function but I could well stand corrected on that one. Since no private insurance company could compete with the resources behind the “public option,” especially in light of extensive (and soon to be greatly increased, no doubt) government regulations on private insurers, this public option would set the stage for a transition to a completely government-run health care system over time.

There are a couple concerns and questions people have and I would love to try and clarify. According to comments made there is some confusion about how one Senator can cease a bill from passing in to law. When a bill is being expedited through the political method there is a trade off and it is every Senator has to agree on the particular bill, in this case it is S3019 Help Find the Missing Act (Billy's Law) Naturally the next query would be, why expedite, let it go through the normal method of voting? I called Senator Lieberman's office and the answer was surprising to me. The bill would not even get to the floor because of the cost of each bill going through the method. This bill would probably die or go dormant. It is terrible to listen to the truth about the political method when a serious bill such as this is determined by cost. This is why lots of bills stall, amazing but true. Having every Senator feel this bill is necessary to pass in to law is OUTSTANDING. They now need to concentrate on Senator Coburn, MEDICAL DOCTOR by profession the only Senator who opposes. Ironic is not it that a cost tag is put on a human life when doctors take an oath to save lives.Las Vegas Web Design take a minute of your time to send a letter by using regular postal service to all of the Senator's Oklahoma offices which include six in Oklahoma and one in Washington DC. There is a immense concern, in case you send an e-mail there is a SPAM SYSTEM set up and your emails could go to spam. There is a fax number as well so in case you have access to a fax machine go that route. Our voices need to be heard take a few additional minutes to think about the choices to best get through to the offices and reach the table of the Senator. Let us all use our voice and be heard they are so close! Passing this bill in to law will help insure a better future for all the families of the missing. AFTER ALL NO ONE IS EXEMPT! LETS ALL UNTILIZE OUR MODERN TECHNOLGY TO THE FULLEST! Joining hands will generate a circle of affection, thank you. With God all things are feasible.

I believe that all our negotiations to date, both informal and formal, have been of good faith and is correct that most of the unions understand Creditors Voluntary Liquidation that the state continues to face an extremely difficult fiscal situation and unsustainable unfunded pension and retiree health care costs.

Sad to see that the Evangelical Lutheran Church supported this awful bill.  Where  is the "justice" in creating a new entitlement that will add onto the 13+ trillion dollars in debt we're leaving behind to our children.  It's interesting on how our massive debt never shows up on the radar screen.

To get a sense of the scale of this problem check ot the US Debt Clock:

If you're serious about providing affordable healthcare to the masses (which I am), proposals such as tort reform, competition across states, healthcare savings accounts are the only way we can make things sustabinable.

If the ELCA and the national council of churches wants this solution they should drop their tax exempt status and help pay the frieght.

Easy to spend other's money on ineffective programs.  Personally I pray everyday that the ELCA leaves the national council of churches.   It has become a thieftom of socialists who do not represent large percentages of the members of their member churches (although they claim to).

I just realize that not even make the average salary for six years. Whoa, that's depressing. Thanks for putting me in a great mood to start the work week! Seriously, I hope that's not all you got my previous comment. Tying pay to performance testing is not the way to fix education.
